Ha
Noi
- Son La - Dien Bien Phu - Sapa - Ha Noi
(7 days / nights)
Despite the
rough roads, the northern Loop is becoming a classic trip because
of the overwhelming scenery and the popular hill town of Sapa, close
to the Chinese border. We start with a drive into an area inhabited
by the Tay, Muong and H'mong minorities. The road to Dien Bien Phu is
rough at times, but it is a worthwhile effort when we see the
freshness and
beauty of the scenery and the
people here. It was at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, that the Viet
Minh
army lead by Ho Chi Minh defeated the French, after nearly 100 years of
colonization and many years of war. We continue northeast to Phong Tho.
As the road climbs higher into the mountains, it becomes increasingly
rougher and more remote.
Arriving in
Sapa around lunchtime on day 4, we will check into the hotel and get
something to eat. The afternoon is free to explore the township. For
the next couple of days we will trek down into the valleys along mountain
trails and through the hill tribe minority villages. On day seven, we
bid Sapa farewell and make our way back to the capital of Ha Noi about
10 hours away.
